This is the pivot pin for your accelerator cable that is located on the side of the automatic transmission of the Vanagon. The automatic transmission Vanagon has a strange set up for the accelerator. It has a cable that comes from the pedal to the side of the transmission. Then there is a lever that shifts the transmission, which the cable attaches to. Then there is a metal rod that goes from that lever to the throttle in the rear. If you are having problems with your gas pedal binding up, you should really be looking at this lever area on the side of the transmission (passenger side). This pin can get corroded when the van sits and bind up so that your gas pedal feels hard to push down, and also can fail to return properly. There is also a plastic bushing that goes along with this. 090321347, Also check the pivot point at the end of the accelerator cable where it snaps onto the lever. It can rust fast to the ball on the lever and then not move as it is supposed to. This will cause the cable end to snap off over time.
