Gearstick for gearbox Diesel 5 speed 8/1982-7/1992 (Not Syncro)

This is an aftermarket version of the 5 speed shifter for 83-92 Diesel Vanagon.  It has the plastic tabs on the end.

The 83-84 Diesel Vanagon that were sold here in the USA were all 5-speeds.  In Europe from 83-92 Diesel could all be 5-speeds.  

Important:  You can't turn a 4 speed transmission into a 5 speed by changing the shifter.  If you have a 5 speed, this will work for you.  If you don't, it won't.
