Fuel Pressure Regulator 83.5-92 Vanagon waterboxer. This is the metal fuel pressure regulator that is mounted on the top of the engine in the center. It is mounted on the center of the air intake plenum, and has two fuel lines going into it from either side. It also has a small vacuum line attached. If you van is running extremely rich, this could be the cause. Pull the vacuum hose off and if gas comes out it is definitely bad. Otherwise you will have to do a fuel pressure test to be sure that it has failed.

UPDATE: Bosch has completely stopped making these and they are No Longer Available from Bosch.  The ones we are selling are aftermarket, but I have used this American company for years and they make a quality product.  You will NOT be getting Bosch but aftermarket which is the only available version now.  The supplier is Intermotor and they are made in Mexico.
